Indigo Darpan - Voices against indigo exploitation in British India

Indigo Darpan speaks about the British Indigo planters exploitation in India in 1800's through the lens of a then banned play called 'Nil Darpan' (Indigo Mirror written by Dinabandhu Mitra). In the polyvocal narrative the layers of facts, fiction and myths are contested, stuck, peeled, torn and rebuilt. The soundscape is a speculative architectural space of post colonial protest.

The Indigo planters have obtained a control over the workers similar to that of masters over slaves . The natives rebel against it, but find no redress in the courts. In utter defiance of all law and authority, large bodies of armed men are avowedly entertained for the express purpose of taking or retaining forcible possession of lands or crops. Violent affrays, rather regular pitched battles ensue, attended with bloodshed and homicide . Private assassinations occasionally occur, and forgery and perjury have their full sway . A drama was written to expose these crimes.
